Well today is Kentucky Derby day for us horseplayers is like the Super Bowl.I will give you a short comment about each horse in the race and than latter on will give you some picks on the race so with that here we go
1) Known Agenda - I like the horse post wont be an issue like in years past and you have one of the best jockeys in Irad Ortiz Jr on him. I am a bit concerned that this horse will be too far back and will have to weave all over the place.If he can be up near 7 to 10 spot in the back coming around the far turn he will fly into the stretch.I have a feeling he wont win but use for 2nd 3rd and 4th for the giimicks.
2) Like The King - Wesley Ward has been on fire lately and has this horse running in the Derby.Good Stalking horse but as much as I like Ward and I will throw $5 on him to win I think this horse is overmatched and throwing him out of the gimmicks
3) Brooklyn Strong - I have this horse rated in my systems that I use to be in this race but I don like him he crapped the Bed in the Wood .You train him at Parx instead of Churchill Downs but has won 3 of 5 races and beat Known Agenda who I like a bit in this race and has Rispoli but Im tossing and not using this horse
4)Keepmeinmind - I like this horse to be on the gimmicks he had work which was excellent has won on this track back in November and if Cohen can be patient think this horse could be flying late to get in the gimmicks will be using for 2nd 3rd 4th.
5) Sainthood - 3 time runner for Pletcher who came behind Like the King at Turfway Park in the Jeff Ruby Steaks but think this horse is way over its head and is a toss for me.
6) O Besos - Alot of talk about this one who was closing late to Hot Rod Charlie in the Louisiana Derby and Foley is very underrated as a trainer best I think this one does in 3rd or 4th.
7) Mandaloun - 2nd of the Brad Cox horses running today but I think this horse gets looked in the eye today I think he folds but I think 3rd or 4th is the best he can do today but Im still debating on this horse.
8) Medina Spirit - This is the best that Baffert has this year and call me nuts but Im tossing this horse has no heart IMO and needs the lead which I think will take alot out of him today and folds like a cheap deck chair
9) Hot Rod Charlie - He should be part of the speed but doesnt really need to go to the front just a nice stalking trip sitting behind the speed and pounce down the stretch I think he is win candidate and use him on your tickets for the gimmicks.
10) Midnight Bourbon - You get Mike Smith to ride this horse for Asmussen and horse is a fighter and should be in the mix till the end Im using for 3rd and 4th in the gimmicks
11) Dynamic One - I used him in the Wood and almost had it lost to Bourbonic by a head and a late bloomer for Pletcher.I dont think he can win but Im using him in my gimmicks for 2nd 3rd 4th as Jose Ortiz is no slouch as a jockey and wouldnt be shocked if he won today.
12) Helium - I dont know what to make of this horse as he won all 3 starts but I think he faced a weak TB Derby Field and took advantage of a nice stalking trip and took the lead and held off our next horse i will be talking about. Mark Casse is a good trainer and I will use this horse for 3rd and 4th.
13) Hidden Stash - Here is your stone cold closer as he will be back in the pack to start the race but this horse has a good closing kick and i will be using this horse in the 2nd 3rd 4th spot for the gimmicks as this horse has the chance to make the gimmicks pay.
14) Essential Quality - This is the favorite in the race as Mattress Mack had bet the horse 3/5 and Saez wants redemption from 2 years ago when he get DQ in the Derby.Alot of pressure on this horse in a 19 horse will use in the gimmicks but I think this one gets beat today.
15) Rock Your World - This horse should be the speed in the race as this one will fire right out and you got Rosario who is a top 5 jockey and is bred to go long and is 3 for 3 lifetime.My thing for this horse is I think he faced a weak Santa Anita Derby with no speed in the race took advantage of it and nobody really challenged him in that race.Well i think he could stalk if needed will be using him in the gimmicks still have doubts on him.
17) Highly Motivated - This Chad Brown horse is another horse who should be in the pack right at the start of the race and gave Essential Quality all he wanted last time out.I think he can win here and will use him in my gimmicks
18) Super Stalk - This horse took advantage of the speed duel up front in the Arkansas Derby last time out and he can be facing the same situation today in the Derby.If somehow this horse can be in somewhat of a good stalking trip he could pounce again at a nice price Im using him on top in my gimmicks.
19) Soup and Sandwich - I like this horse but not in this race today.I dont like his post draw and horse will get caught up in a speed duel IMO and will fold if you like him fine Im not talking anybody off a horse but Im tossing
20) Boubonic - This horse took advantage of Slow fractions in the Wood and came from dead last to win at the end and today could be passing tired horse to get up in the gimmicks no better tha 3rd or 4th for me
